Summer Notes and Word Jazz

Recently we Danger Boys decided to upgrade or web site. There was no question as to whom we would ask. Melissa Bond has taken many photos & videos of us over the years. She has also taken many photos of Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and other performers. She has designed websites for many other musicians and artists. Using photos, videos and memorabilia, Melissa has created a nice website of our goofy band! If you need a web site created, or 8x10 glossies, look her up!

To all you of you who came out to Mon Ami Winery, we sure had a good time under the trees!! That is a beautiful place to play, with the big old trees providing shade for all the people who are not helping fill the outdoor dance floor. To bad we couldn't get guitar ace Tony Luzio up for a number, but he always has a hang nail!

Thanks to John Pollock of Maumee Ohio, for the nice photos of the Clear Channel St Patrick's day show in Toledo. A few of his photos are on this site.

Use this link and you will see many photos of this event. You are probably in one! Be sure to look at his other photos, they are quite nice.

Tonight's show in Delta was a great success. We have not played in Delta for probably 13 years or something, and those shows were in a dance hall. This was a new event for Delta and they had great advance ticket sales, and a huge crowd for the event, which took place on a closed street in the downtown. The biggest thrill us band members was meeting half of the Delta Police Department, which totals 8 officers!

Thanks Delta People for a very fun evening!!

What a way to end our season at the Beer Barrel, Standing room only!! The place was packed, and the house was rocking. We played Dave's rocking tune about Put In Bay: Island Party, and premiered Bill's new tune, Let's Get Up For The Buckeyes. Being a former O.S.U. Marching Band member, Bill writes straight from the heart. The crowd was following the lyrics and 'raising their cup for the Buckeyes' By the last verse the crowd was singing the chorus. Not bad for the first time out.

On the way out of the beer barrel, I stopped to say hello and goodbye to our friend Jay Warren. I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn he had passed away several weeks ago. We met Jay 10 years ago when he started at the Beer Barrel, where he became the head of security. Jay hailed from the Freemont area and was a very talented songwriter, singer and general raconteur. He loved to talk music. Several years ago he took the CD of music that Dave and me recorded back in the 1970's, Load Have Mercy, and wrote lyrics and melodies over our largely instrumental album. He recorded it and gave it to us. It was quite good. We will miss his energy and enthusiasm, what a nice guy: Jeffery 'Jay' Warren.

Paid a visit to the great Newark Earthworks in Newark Ohio. Located at the Mound Builders Golf Course, the earthworks compromise a huge octagon connected to an almost perfect circle.

The octagon & the circle are about 70 acres in size and were once part of 4 square miles of complex walls, circles, squares, and other shapes, built some 2000 years ago. Many feel that this was a place where Indians gathered from all over for some sort of spiritual ceremonies. It was determined however, that the remaining Newark Earthworks were a lunar calendar following the 18 1/2 year cycle of the moon.

It was also discovered, through many hours of research, that there was more than likely, two parallel earthen walls that went from Newark straight down to Chillicothe, 60 miles. These walls would have gone by the amazing Tarlton Cross Mound near Circleville, which is a cross with arms that extend north, south, east & west. The walls were discovered through the research of Dr Bradley T. Lepper, Curator of Archeology for the Ohio Historical Center. Dr. Lepper has complied an excellent coffee table book for all ages on Ohio's native American cultures simply titled: Ohio Archeology. It is excellent, profusely illustrated and written for all ages.

Wow, what fun, playing the Friday Night Live show at the Dayton Air Show. Playing in a hanger, looking out at the fantastic collection of huge airplanes was quite dramatic. Special thanks to the long time Danger fans whom we had never met; The 164th Airlift Squadron out of Mansfield Ohio. This unit gave us a tour of one of their C-130's, complete with a walk on the wings, a moment we will never forget.
